Flower Care
Flower Care
Thank you for choosing The Flower House. Our arrangements arrive at your door ready to delight. Just a few minutes of care will ensure they stay fresh and beautiful even longer.
1. On Arrival
-
Remove all packaging (cellophane, ribbons) and any transport straps the bouquet may have.
-
Trim each stem about 1 cm at an angle under water, using clean, sharp scissors or shears.
-
Use a clean vase, fill with fresh (tap) water, and if supplied, add the sachet of flower food.
-
Remove any leaves or foliage that would sit below the water-line (they accelerate bacteria growth).
-
Place in a cool, shaded spot — away from direct sunlight, heating/air-conditioning vents and fruit bowls (ethylene from fruit shortens bloom life).
2. Daily Care
-
Change the water every 1–2 days. Rinse the vase before refilling to remove build-up.
-
Trim an additional 0.5–1 cm from stems when you change the water.
-
Remove any wilting or drooping flowers and fallen petals to keep the arrangement looking fresh and healthy.
Avoid placing near open windows or doors where heat, wind or strong drafts can stress the blooms.
3. Special Types of Arrangements
-
Box/foam-based arrangements (hat-boxes, letter boxes, mounted foam): Check the foam daily — it should remain moist but not waterlogged. Gently add water directly to the foam if it begins to dry.
-
Orchids & potted blooms (if applicable): Place them in bright, indirect light (near a window but not in full sun). Water only when the mix is partly dry (typically every 7-10 days), and remove faded blooms or yellowing leaves promptly.
-
Tall or sculptural arrangements: Ensure they are in a stable, secure vase or location and refresh the water every other day to maintain the stem health.
4. Maximizing Lifespan
-
Cooler ambient room temperatures (ideally ~ 18-22 °C) help prolong bloom life.
-
Remove ripening fruit or vegetables from the same room — they release ethylene gas which accelerates senescence of flowers.
-
Avoid repositioning the arrangement frequently; consistent light and environment help retain shape and freshness.
-
If the stems are slightly droopy after 2–3 days: trim again, change water, and add a fresh batch of flower food (if available).
5. What to Expect
Because we work exclusively with fresh, seasonal blooms, each stem will carry its own natural variation in size, shade and texture. While we aim for consistency and fidelity to the image you selected, slight differences are part of the beauty and authenticity of natural flowers.
